David Poisson lives the Austin lifestyle with a passion. He moved to Austin from Phoenix to attend The University of Texas and he appreciates every quirk and offering this town provides. David embodies the “laid back, independent spirit” of South Austin that he fell in love with when he arrived in 1986.
From his early days in Austin, he’s made his home in the ’04 zip code, and has lived in and around Barton Hills and Zilker for more than 28 years. “I’ve become very involved in my neighborhood and community,” David says. “This area is unique with its borders being defined by Barton Creek and the crown jewels of Austin, Barton Springs and Zilker Park.” His love for the area, and the outdoors has led him to not only serve on his neighborhood association board for more than 5 years, but volunteer for the Greenbelt Guardians, a group that helps maintain the Barton Creek Greenbelt in and around Barton Hills, The Pease Park Conservancy, and Friends of the Forest. Austin has great community events and festivals and he’s been to most all of them. David also organizes his annual block party and enjoys BBQing for and hanging out with his neighbors.
He holds degrees from UT in Economics and History. While at UT, he was a member of the water ski team. While skiing one day, he started thinking about all the equipment and how it came to be. He had questions which turned into ideas and ultimately, he invented a unique product for water skiers. He took it from a mere concept to an EPA approved, manufactured and packaged product. He marketed and sold it to over 100 retail stores. However, he eventually decided that the water ski market was small, seasonal and had high turnover rates; it just wasn’t satisfying. That’s when a friend suggested real estate.
His extensive knowledge of Austin, attention to detail, desire to be involved, creativity, and get it done attitude have served him well. His clients think so too. He finds great satisfaction in helping people find the perfect neighborhood and house because he gets so much enjoyment out of his own. He thinks that people are too “connected” these days which has an impersonal effect. David really enjoys giving them all of his attention. “When I’m with a client, I don’t jump for my phone when it rings, and it surprises people” he said. “I’m invested in their needs and I’m all in.” He takes pride in helping people and embraces his expertise in the process. He doesn’t just hold a real estate salesman’s license, he’s continued his education and attained his broker’s license. If there’s an extra mile, he’s not afraid to run it, which evokes comments like, “David helped me sell my home, and I didn’t think twice about hiring him for my mom’s property,” or “his extensive knowledge of the area, and his insight on the market meant he priced our home right and sold it quickly” and even “he’s got a PhD in common sense.”
If David is not working, it’s likely that he is outside on the Greenbelt with his dog, trying new restaurants, on his boat, or out seeing to live music.
